We are thrilled to partner with the best restaurants from across the country at our Bacon and Beer Classics. One of our favorites from the Twin Cities Classic was Wise Acre Eatery, a farm-to-fork cafe serving up American eats in downtown Minneapolis. Our judges awarded Wise Acre’s Hogs on a Log the Best Savory Dish at the festival! Read on to find out just what makes these porky bites so nom-a-licious.
1. What was your inspiration for the Hogs on a Log?
The inspiration for Hogs on a Log was simple: a fun twist on the classic Ants on a Log. We wanted it to be something adults would love and find playful. We start out with some crisp organic celery and top it with a housemade Sriracha blue cheese spread and our signature bacon lardons. You end up with a well balanced treat of creamy, crunchy, spicy, tangy...all in one bite!
2. What style of beer would pair best with the dish?
I think that a lager would be great with our Hogs on a Log. Bent Paddle has a beautiful one that our team at Wise Acre Eatery loves!
3. What did you enjoy most about the Classic?
We really enjoyed the crowd. The people were so interactive and fun; they loved talking to us about our food, concept and their experience that night!
4. Tell us about another favorite dish you offer at Wise Acre Eatery.
On our current night menu we have the Oko-minni-yaki, a Japanese-style savory farm cake, with different farm veggies featured every night and topped with our daily aioli and a poached hen egg. It is a beautiful vegetarian dish that pairs really well with a side of our famous BACON!
5. What do you love about living in Minneapolis?
Minneapolis is such a fun and diverse community; the arts are so well respected and the scenery is one in a million.
